Two Year
Musical Theatre Course Curriculum
Year 2 is split into three modules. Each module features professional, public performances,
giving students the chance to experience the many diverse performance opportunities
available to fully-trained individuals, in order to enhance their employment options.
Topics covered may include: Charity Concerts; Theatre in Education; Straight Plays; Full-Length Musicals;
Stage Combat; Devised Work, and the course culminates in a Student Graduation Showcase in a London Theatre.
In order to maintain students' current levels of ability and push them towards the
greater levels required for such an intensive programme of rehearsal and
performance, some regular classes from Year 1 are continued into Year 2,
ensuring the maximum possible contact time over the course.
Term 1
This term concentrates on consolidating and
building on the work of the first year, with one daily
class in each of the three main disciplines of dance,
drama and singing. In addition to these, regular
portfolio classes ensure students remain fully
prepared with repertoire for future auditions.
The majority of the core day is spent in a
professional rehearsal-style environment, with a
Director / Musical Director / Choreographer, working
towards a professional production. This term
features two productions, which may include:
devised work; theatre in education; straight plays;
concerts.
Students are involved in all aspects of each
production, in order to gain a valuable insight into the
challenges and demands of a theatrical company,
and to fully appreciate the rewards that come with
being a part of a successful production.
Term 2
This term continues to provide one lesson per day in each of the three main disciplines of dance, drama and singing, plus regular repertoire portfolio sessions. Students undertake guided research projects in preparation for written work which is submitted for the diploma exam, receive tutorials towards their final performance exam, and are set mock papers in order to fully prepare them for their Supporting Theory exam.
This term also features two further productions, which may include: song cycles; full-length musicals; straight plays; cabarets.
As with Term 1, the majority of the core day is spent in a
professional rehearsal-style environment, with a Director / Musical Director / Choreographer, working towards each production, and students are again involved in all aspects of each production.
At the end of this term, students sit their Supporting Theory exam - a written paper of two and a half hours, which forms Unit 1 of the LTCL Diploma.

dance, drama and singing, plus regular repertoire
portfolio sessions, tutorials, exam preparation sessions
and mock exams towards their final performance exam.

of approximately 4000 words, which forms Unit 2 of the
LTCL Diploma, and take their Final Performance exam -
an assessed performance, which forms Unit 3 of the
LTCL Diploma.
The course culminates in a Student Showcase in a
London theatre, in which every student receives equal
stage time to demonstrate their skills in all disciplines,
in both solo and group pieces. This show includes an
invited audience of industry professionals.
Our aim is that every student who completes the Two
Year Musical Theatre Course is a fully-trained,
experienced triple-threat performer, who feels prepared
to enter the profession and put their training into practice
for a sustained and rewarding career.
